Funeral of this prominent and beloved woman was
held friday from the home.
Mrs. Cora Ann Slade, age 86, died at her home here last Thursday evening. In the passing of Mrs. Slade Yanceyville and Caswell County lost one of its oldest and most beloved citizens.
Mrs. Slade was the daughter of of the late Samuel S. and Louisa McDaniel Harrison was born July 13th, 1846. She was the last of that immediate family of ten. She married May 24th 1870 to Captain Ezekiel Slade, being a bride at the time Kirk's army was sent to this county during the reconstruction period following the Civil War.
Mrs. Slade was the mother of 11 children. Six of whom survive her. Of the 11 children, all children surviving are : Mrs. Ella Vincent of Union SC, Mrs. George A. Anderson of Yanceyville, Mrs. Annie Richmond of Raleigh, Roy Harrison Slade of Blanch and Misses Addie and Hattie Slade of Yanceyville. The Grandchildren surviving are : Kenneth, John Quinton, Ruth Byrd, James Ezekiel and George A. Anderson Jr., Mrs W.B. Horton, Mrs M. McCrary, Mrs Cora Richmond and Ted Slade. The Great-Grandchildren surviving are : Nancey and Earl McCrary, Kenneth Jr., and Mary Anderson.
Mrs. Slade was educated at the Rhinehart Academy here and at the Greensboro Female College at Greensboro. She attended both of these schools before the Civil War.
Mrs. Slade was a wonderful conversationalist and had an alert and active mind up till the time of her death. She was always interested in those about her and liked to keep posted on all the news of her town, county and state. Although Mrs. Slade had been totally blind for more than 12 years and in ill health much of that time, she was never known to murmur a word of complaint, but was alway patient and tried never to putany one to extra trouble.
Mrs. Slade was a devoted Christian and an ardent church worker all of her active life. She became a church member at the old Harrison M.E. Church at tthe age of 11 and moved her memebership to Yanceyville in 1884. She was an active church member for more than 75 years.
The funeral service was held from the home last Friday afternoon at three o'clock. The rites being in charge of Rev. I.T. Poole, her Pastor, assisted by Rev. Roy F. Whitley, P.T. Worell and W.C. Jones.
Internment was made in the Harrison Burial grounds at Purley, the old home of the Harrisons.
